As the 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Elections of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Lagos South Battalion Council draw closer, all officers and members are urged to adhere to the electoral guidelines to ensure a transparent, fair, and democratic process. The elections will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Wesley Chapel, Lekki, with voting taking place online.
Electoral Committee and Responsibilities
In accordance with Section 6 of the Battalion’s Bye-Laws, the Electoral Committee, appointed and supervised by the State Council through the Office of the State Secretary/Organizer, shall oversee the entire electoral process. Their core responsibilities include:
- Setting election timelines and nomination procedures.
- Screening all candidates to ensure they meet the required criteria.
- Conducting the elections in an impartial and transparent manner.
- Announcing the election results during the AGM.
Eligibility to Vote and Contest for Office
As stated in Section 7 of the Bye-Laws, voting rights and eligibility to contest for office are governed by specific guidelines to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
Who Can Vote?
- Voting rights are reserved exclusively for Captains or designated representatives of registered Companies within the Battalion Council.
Who Can Contest?
- Candidates must meet the qualifications for the position they seek.
- Candidates must have actively participated in Battalion Council activities and services for at least one year preceding the elections, including maintaining an 80% attendance record in Battalion programs, officer meetings, enrollment services, and both State and National events.
- Candidates must be financially up to date with the Battalion Council.
- Candidates must be residents of Lagos and active members of a Company within the jurisdiction.
- Each candidate must submit recommendation letters from both their Company Captain and Chaplain.
- Candidates must have no pending investigations or disciplinary cases within the past year.
- Candidates must exhibit strong leadership qualities and commitment to the objectives of The Boys’ Brigade.
Voting Process
Per Section 8 of the Bye-Laws, the electoral process will be conducted through an online voting system to ensure accessibility and transparency.
- The election will commence online on Saturday, February 8, 2025.
- The voting link will be sent directly to each Captain’s email at the start of the elections.
- Each registered Company is entitled to one vote, exercised by the Captain or their designated representative.
- The candidate with the majority vote will be declared the winner.
- The nomination process officially closed at midnight on January 30, 2025, after which all nominees were screened and placed on the ballot.
By-Elections and Dispute Resolution
By-Elections
Should a vacancy arise due to resignation, suspension, or other reasons, a by-election shall be conducted within three (3) months to fill the position, as stipulated in Section 9 of the Bye-Laws. The newly elected officer will serve the remainder of the original tenure.
Dispute Resolution
To maintain order and credibility in the electoral process, Section 10 outlines the procedure for resolving election-related disputes:
- All disputes must be formally referred to the Electoral Committee.
- The Electoral Committee’s decisions shall be final, subject to ratification by the State Council.
