Our Motto, Object, Mission and Vision

Motto:

The Boys’ Brigade Motto is ‘Sure & Steadfast’. The motto is taken from the Bible, the book of Hebrews, Chapter 6, Verse 19.

Our object:

The Object of The Boys’ Brigade is: “The advancement of Christ’s kingdom among Boys and the promotion of habits of Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect and all that tends towards a true Christian manliness.”

Focus on the Boy Child:

We believe that investing in boys is essential for building a strong and prosperous future. Our programs are designed to meet the specific needs of boys. They provide them with positive role models and mentorship. They also offer opportunities for personal growth. In today’s world, boys face many challenges. The Boys’ Brigade provides them with a strong foundation in teamwork, leadership, and discipline, equipping them to navigate these challenges and become responsible men.

Mission:

We nurture youth in Lagos South to become responsible Christian men. This is achieved through a balanced program of spiritual, physical, educational, and social development.

Vision:

To be the leading youth development organisation in Lagos South, shaping future leaders grounded in Christian values.

Values:

  • Teamwork: We believe in the power of teamwork. Through drills, band, and group projects, boys learn to collaborate, support each other, and achieve common goals. This fosters inclusiveness and a sense of belonging. ‘One Band, One Spirit’ is more than just a motto; it’s how we live.
  • Leadership/Service: Leadership is about service. Our boys learn to put the needs of others first, following the example of Jesus Christ. Through ‘Bob-a-Job’ and community service projects, they develop a heart for serving others. ‘What would Jesus do?’ is the question that guides our actions.
  • Discipline: Discipline is essential for personal growth. We teach boys the importance of obedience, self-respect, and continuous improvement. Through rigorous training and rehearsals, they learn perseverance, resilience, and the value of hard work. We believe that the journey, the experience, and even our mistakes are valuable lessons that shape us.

Our work is split into age groups as follows:

Anyone aged 3-19 is more than welcome to join us! Our member companies consist of four sections, each meeting on weekends. See all our companies here.

  • Anchor Section (Ages 3 to 7)
  • Junior Section (Ages 8 – 11)
  • Company Section (Ages 11 – 15)
  • Senior section (Ages 15-19)

We invite non-traditional participants over the age bracket to join us. Help us serve the members together as helpers, instructors, and officers. Read more about our age-based sections.
